Wayne Lynch, and his wife, Carol, recently donated their time and expertise to provide training for the TEARS School in Maria Auxiliadora barrio in, La Vega, Dominican Republic. Wayne has known the founder, Rod Davis, for over ten years as Mr. Davis’ children graduated from Santiago Christian School, where Wayne previously served on staff.
Rod Davis is an ex-drug addict/dealer who God saved and sent him and his family on a mission to the DR. He did what no one else has done. He purchased a dirt-floor shack and moved into the poorest of neighborhoods to take on Christ’s poverty with the 30,000 people who live here. Aside from starting churches, preaching the gospel, and assisting in community development projects, he soon realized that many children did not go to school or were poorly educated.
Fast forward ten years and God has done amazing work resulting in an Early Childhood Learning Center and Elementary School up to grade 8 with 300 students and the James Davis Christian High School of 200 students. And NONE of the students pay tuition, meaning they are educating and feeding the poorest of the poor with the help of many partners.
The new high school building is a marvel! It is built out of 28 SHIPPING CONTAINERS and they have 8000 square feet under roof for $5.00 per square foot. But there remains much to be done.
